Welcoming two staff interns!

By Laxmi Gurung, Refugee Youth Manager

The last month of 2021 has been a really exciting time for Mission Adelante because we were able to welcome two staff interns from our youth program to be part of the team. They both have been part of the programs since they were little and now it's so exciting to have them on the team. These two people are Kanchan Gurung and Sostika Gurung. (p.s. both of them are cousins.😊)

Kanchan is working in the Kids Ministry with Megan and Sostika is working in Marketing with Alex. I feel so proud to see them taking this opportunity. It reminds me of how I accepted my proposal of an apprentice after graduating from High school. I could definitely see them being in my place soon and leading the groups of kids and youth. Both of them are so creative in their own ways who love working with kids and helping other people. I’m so excited about what God has in store for them in the future. I asked them to share a little bit about how they were feeling to be part of the team:

Kanchan - I am feeling so proud to be working here at Mission Adelante with an awesome team. They all are so kind and welcoming to me. When I first came to Mission Adelante I didn’t know that I was going to leave with lots of memories of making new friends and getting closer to God. I feel like I have spent most of my childhood here as a kid and now it's crazy to know that I’m on the staff. I never thought that I would be working at the same place where I used to come as a participant in its programs. Now I’m very excited to be involved and help the community to make a difference through Mission Adelante. I’m also happy that I got this opportunity because I'm learning a lot from Megan Fountain, who I have always looked up to since I was little. She’s an amazing leader. I love working with her and learning from her. "

Sostika - "I have been a part of Mission Adelante for almost 11 years now and I’m so happy that I’m one of the staff members now. Mission Adelante has helped me in so many ways from making friends to getting help with my education. I was 7 or 8 years old when I joined Leaders-In-Training (LIT) and I was still in elementary school at that time. Throughout my journey in LIT, I have learned a lot of knowledge about God which helped me become closer to him in my everyday life. Now I’m a high school student and I’m so grateful that I’m still a part of Mission Adelante. They have taught me a lot of things on my journey to where I'm right now. Now that I’m a staff member, I hope that I can keep learning new things in my life. I also hope that I can help the kids just like the volunteers who helped me when I was a little kid. "

Bienvenidos and Welcome to the team Kanchan and Sostika!
