Return to the Fountain

Return to the Fountain

Have you ever prayed and struggled to find the right words when talking to God? Have you ever felt disconnected from the source? Or maybe you feel like you repeat the same words over and over every single day?

That’s exactly how I had been feeling lately.

Yes, I prayed every morning. I would surrender my day to God, ask Him to protect my family, and to guide us safely wherever we went. During the day, I would pray again and give thanks. At night, before sleeping, I would finish my day with another prayer.

But somehow, my words toward God began to feel repetitive. And of course… I truly do want Him to protect me, my family, and my friends. I want Him to provide and sustain us. I genuinely thank Him every day for everything.

But now, I absolutely see His answers to my prayers, so I feel a passion in my heart, because I want everyone to experience this beautiful gift the Word of God teaches us about prayer.

Call to me, and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.
— Jeremiah 33:3

Jesus Himself gave us the example. Even while surrounded by crowds, responsibilities, and people constantly seeking Him, He always made time to pray.

But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.
— Luke 5:16

George Muller - This man read the Bible over 200 times, and many of those times while on his knees.

Because of this, I know God knows every detail about me. He knows my heart and the reason behind every prayer. Nothing escapes our God.

Yesterday, before writing this blog, I spoke with a friend about how I had been feeling regarding prayer and how sometimes I struggled to truly connect. We prayed about it together. Then this morning at 6:00 a.m., the very first thing that appeared on my phone was a video about George Müller.

It shared a story about a moment in his orphanage when they had no food for breakfast. Even so, he sat the children at the table and prayed, thanking God for the food… moments after a baker arrived with fresh bread and a milkman gave them milk because his cart had broken down right in front of the orphanage.

That completely sparked my curiosity.

I thought, “Does God really answer prayers that quickly? Is that actually possible?”

Immediately, I began researching more about this man and discovered something else that deeply caught my attention: he would pray the Bible. George Müller realized his prayers became more powerful when he stopped centering them around his own emotions and instead focused on God’s Word, using Scripture as the foundation for his prayers.

Honestly… that impacted me deeply.

Right after that, I listened to a devotional about David and Psalm 103. It talked about how David, when struggling to stay focused, would speak to himself: “Bless the Lord, O my soul…”

David intentionally reminded himself of God’s goodness so he would not fall into complaint or discouragement. Because yes… even he felt what many of us feel sometimes.

Then I continued reading Psalm 27, and at that point, I fully understood what George Müller meant about praying according to the Word of God. David knew exactly who he was speaking to. He knew who he was communicating with.

The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?
— Psalm 27:1

How powerful the Psalms are. How wonderful our God is.

And honestly, for me, all of this became an immediate answer to the prayer I had made the day before. Yes, God always hears us. He invites us to read His Word, to nourish our soul with His Spirit. He waits for us to speak with Him. He is always there, taking care of our needs even when we do not fully understand how He is working.

Pray. Have faith. And be patient.

Because even in the silence… God is still working.
