Making Space for God
by Kristina Muñoz
When you hear the phrase "spending time with God," what comes to mind?
For a while, for me, it meant sitting down with a Bible and journal each morning, but it doesn't look like that for everyone. For others, it's a prayer walk, listening to worship music, serving others, or finding a few quiet moments in the middle of a busy day. These practices may look different, but they all have something in common: they create space for us to connect with God.
One thing I have been learning recently is that spending time with God doesn't always have to look the same. Different seasons of life often require different rhythms. Some days I have plenty of time to sit and reflect, while other days I find myself connecting with God through brief prayers, Scripture reminders, or moments of gratitude throughout the day. I've come to realize that the goal isn't to follow a perfect formula but to intentionally cultivate a relationship with Him.
Lately, one practice I have really enjoyed is answering self-reflection questions. These questions help me slow down, examine my heart, and notice where God is at work in my life. In a world filled with constant noise and distractions, taking time to reflect has become a meaningful way for me to spend time with God.
I have enjoyed writing questions, folding them up, putting them in a jar, and then randomly picking one. Sometimes I like to simply think about my answer; other times, I enjoy sharing my thoughts with my husband. It has become a fun bonding moment, even if it's mostly me talking his ear off, haha. I challenge you to take a few moments to think through these questions. You may want to write your answers in a journal, discuss them with a friend, or simply bring them before God in prayer.
What does spending time with God currently look like in my life?
When do I feel most connected to God?
Are there ways God may be inviting me to spend time with Him that I haven't considered before?
What distractions tend to pull my attention away from God?
Where have I seen God's faithfulness in the past few weeks?
What is one thing God might be teaching me in this season?
How can I intentionally create space for God in the coming week?
If spending time with God is about relationship rather than routine, how might that change my perspective?
There are no perfect answers to these questions. The purpose is simply to pause and reflect. God often speaks in the quiet moments when we are willing to slow down and listen.
No matter what spending time with God looks like in this season of your life, remember that He desires a relationship with you. Whether you connect with Him through Scripture, prayer, worship, service, reflection, or a combination of many different practices, the important thing is making room for Him.
